This is the podcast that you’ve been waiting for if you’re a fan of Godzilla, King Kong, Gamera and the entire rest of the genre of giant monsters movies, also known as Daikaiju Eiga.
Every week host Myles and Patrick will be looking at the history of this film genre in chronological order from the very beginning and working their way through the entire catalogue of films from all over the world. Along the way they will be discussing the cultural, artistic and historic events and significance of these films, while noting how technical aspects, characterizations and depictions changed with the societies that put these films on the big screen.
Starting this podcast up and you will begin to develop a sense of not only why these films became popularized because of the big screen, but why they have persisted since the dawn of the cinema. We are re-watching every single film in the genre, potentially hundreds of films, and we invite you to join along for this journey as well. At the end of every episode we will be professionally reviewing and giving opinions on these films, and we would love to know what you think as well.

Love the show (though I may disagree now and again with the ratings)! Kaiju fan since the late 60s in Detroit, growing up with Monster Week on the afternoon movies twice a year. Though it may be too late for your discussion, the Criterion streaming service is currently showing most of Honda’s kaiju films. There is an annual subscription fee that I find worth it. Atragon, Dogora, Varan, Mysterians, Space Ameoba in cleaned up form and the original Japanese.
